Fashion Week in New York has come to an end, but for design school students in the Big Apple, the haute couture festival has only encouraged more focused, calculated objectives among the designers. Attending one of the best fashion design schools in the country, which are primarily housed in New York, invariably gives you access to world-renowned runway shows and all of the inspiration that comes along with them. For students plotting their clothing design objectives, fashion week is an excellent time to evaluate what they want to achieve in their fashion design careers.

Clothing Design Conundrums
Fashion design school brings in to focus the many details and questions that a designer will face throughout her fashion design career. For New York fashion design school student Daphne Woo, her objective is to remain current with consumer trends and keep production time down. She mentions the constant juggling act of waiting for vendors to supply design materials, selling clothing designs to stores, and keeping collections relevant to the customer.

Tall, Petite, Casual wear, Evening...Fashion Designs For Whom?
Of course, then there is the question of who will wind up wearing the collection? This is often one of the first quandaries you will confront as you pursue your fashion design degree since you will quickly discover the type of clothing design you prefer creating. For Sathya Balakumar, another New York design student, her objective from the very beginning has been to "design and manufacture beautiful clothes for 'petites' like her." Selecting a target market helps you define your fashion design degree goals.

When it comes to choosing from the best fashion design schools, consider first what you need in order to begin a successful career. Then, select a school that offers outstanding instruction as well as an inspiring fashion culture to keep your creativity running strong.
