We may still be burrowed deep beneath chunky wool sweaters, scarves, and leggings, but designers are always one season ahead of the consumer. So, while we don only our warmest winter clothing and settle into the long months ahead, design labels such as Prada, Zac Posen, and Viktor & Rolf are introducing new Spring fashion themes and fantasies.

After months of drab, bulky layers, Spring 2007’s designs return to the light, breezy antiquity of the more refined ages in fashion. Airy fringes, layers of tiers, beads and glamour—what more could you ask for?

Fashion Design Forecasting: Spring’s New Horizon
In the world of fashion design, one of the critical jobs for clothing designers is dictating the underlying themes for the season. For Viktor & Rolf, forecasting spring fashion was an opportunity to celebrate the big band era, where ballroom dancing and an air of propriety steered their design direction. “We are die-hard romantics,” says Rolf Snoeren of the design duo. “But at the same time we are also conceptualists. So we wanted to do something light and entertaining. That’s how we came to think of ballroom dancing.”
