Catching the New Year's Fashion Curve in Chicago

For Chicago's fashion school students should take advantage of hot shapes, colors, and textures that will dominate the city's fashion scene in 2007! Dressing for Chicago's Chilly Winter Outings For the initial cold months of the New Year, Chicago will continue don layered looks. Design students know firsthand the importance of pairing a chunky sweater with dark jeans and a floor-dusting coat to keep out the cold. Patent leather and wool in dark, moody shades offer perfect textures for fashion school students to play with. Equestrian boots that graze the knee will be a hit, particularly in chocolate brown and glossy black hues. Design students tired of this dark, weather-inspired color palette can spice up winter ensembles with oversized leather hang bags in punchy yellow or grass green. Chicago's gritty urban style is mirrored in menswear looks for women. From funky top hats to pantsuits and double-breasted blazers, there is nothing classier than a woman who can dress up traditionally masculine attire. This look will likely continue into spring, so go ahead and play with this hot trend. The Mod look is back, as brightly colored flats and mini dresses are expected to hit Chicago's streets in early 2007. Fashion design students will have fun playing with funky hemline lengths and cube-inspired designs. You can also expect hair trends to correspond to the Mod mentality. Spring Tidings for Chicago Fashion Students While spring's new clothes have a subtle sexiness, girly floral patterns and soft pastels are out. This year, feminine has a slightly rougher edge. Shorts continued to rule the spring catwalks in Paris, and you can expect to see them infiltrate Chicago's Fashion Central. Whether you wear them ultra-short or to the knee, this new look demands attention. Bouncy skirts in a wide array of styles are in--from petticoat offshoots to body-hugging fits. Design students should pair billowy shapes with form-fitting items to capitalize on spring's new styles. Loose fitting shirtdresses should be worn unbuttoned and over shapely shorts. The skirts are especially hip when paired with spring's new sandals. Minimalist Roman flats and natural hued strappy sandals are hot picks. For the fashion school students who love heels, thin pointy-toed heels are on the way out, paving the way for spring's chunkier round-toed shoes. Go Global with Style Fashion school students take note: global, ethnic flare is stepping from the runway into Chicago. Eclectic West African patterns spice up slim, below-the-knee dresses and cropped tops. Those yearning to be truly innovative should look to places like Tokyo and Johannesburg for inspiration. Gaudy jewels are out this year, Chicago—opt for one or two carefully placed gems instead. Accessories continue to make or break outfits, but design students should refrain from creating looks that overload on jewelry. Chicago’s current and future fashion school students take note: 2007 provides a wealth of opportunities to personalize hot new looks that could announce your entrance into the Chicago fashion scene.
