In terms of the importance given to fashion retail jobs, the UK has some catching up to do with US. Retail in the UK is looked upon as a kind of second class job, when in fact it is the very frontline of marketing. Finally, fashion retail jobs in the UK are being recognized as a viable fashion career to be learned at fashion school. The new Fashion Retail Academy in London confirms this.

Phillip Green's Lucrative Fashion Career

Phillip Green, owner of the UK's fashion retail empire Arcadia, gave himself a 1.2 billion pound salary last year. Now that's what I call a fashion career! The seven shops within the Arcadia sector, which he has called his "seven children," have seen their ups and downs, but the undoubted golden child of the moment is Top Shop.

The Importance of Fashion Retail Jobs

The success of the Arcadia group highlights how essential good fashion retail outlets are. Good layout, merchandising and service are vital in fashion retail, and it is all about giving the right people the right jobs. Mindful of the importance of fashion retail jobs, Phillip came up with the idea for his new fashion school in London, the Fashion Retail Academy. If the academy passes on only a fraction of his business and fashion retail sense, they will be setting up their students for excellent job prospects and a long term glittering fashion career.
