Tom Ford's Fashion Career: Today's Fashion Has Become Too Fickle

Out with the embroidered boho chic tunics and in with the modernist, edgy pieces. Tom Ford, former Gucci designer, thinks today's fashion has become too fickle. Can you agree with Ford and still have a fashion career? Tom Ford's Fashion CareerBorn in 1964, Tom Ford started out as an actor. He attended interior design school, but by 1990 was working for Gucci. He reached the pinnacle of women's ready-to-wear fashion in his fashion career, but he left the company in 1994 due to creative differences. In addition to his highly successful fashion career, Ford is making a film.Should Today's Fashion World Slow Down?In the fall of 2005 Ford was quoted as saying that trends now change so quickly that many consumers can't keep up and instead turn to casual clothing. Not surprisingly, it is difficult to find any fashion designers or writers who agree with him. Most of those with a love of today's fashion - and a fashion career, feel that it is this constant state of fashion flux that makes today's fashion the vibrant world that it is.For those who are still very much at the beginning of their fashion career, Ford's opinion could seem disheartening. The truth is, today's fashions, and tomorrow's fashions as well, are in a constant state of flux. Fashion is part of consumerism, consumerism makes the world go round and fashion makes sure it looks good on the way. Today's fashion lovers can be as comfortable in jeans as in a cocktail dress, and many of us wear both in one day, sometimes even at the same time. Ford's career is no longer about ready-to-wear women's designs, but that just leaves more room for future fashion design careers. Fashion is all about change, Tommy.
