Discount stores are often scoffed at in the fashion world for carrying cheap, bland, or ill fitting clothes. Target is certainly one exception to the rule. For the last several seasons, Target has launched its GO. International Flights of Fashion - a design and marketing campaign that provides Target customers with affordable fashion created by designers from around the world. Previous fashion designers include Tara Jarman, Paul & Joe, and Luella Bartley. Now, customers are eagerly awaiting the newest addition to Target's high fashion frenzy in February 2007: Proenza Schouler.

From Fashion Design School to Major Retail Success
Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez make up the designing duo of Proenza Schouler - a name comprised of their mother's maiden names. McCullogh and Hernandez first met in a New York fashion design school where they discovered that their mutual passion for construction and cut made them an excellent clothing design team. In 2002 the designers won recognition as the "future of fashion," having mastered the precision of women's clothing design. While the label is a huge hit in high-end retail stores, Target's inclusion of Proenza Schouler will offer its designs to a broader market at less costly prices.

Fashion Design Course in Retail and Marketing
Bridging the gap between high-end fashion designers and budget shoppers is a marketing concept that Target and several other retailers are beginning to embrace. But how do discount retailers convince luxury designers to enter into a contract? The answer lies in retail and marketing expertise - the business side of fashion. While fashion design school offers formal training in pattern making, garment construction, and sewing, it also provides critical courses in business and retail management. For those whose fashion goals lie outside of the runway, there is a fashion design course for you too.
