Fashion school is a great way to study trends and prepare for a career that takes advantage of them, and the fashion industry's recent ban of too-thin waifs on the catwalk is not one to overlook. The growing focus on women's health in fashion could spell a hot career designing plus-size fashions in the coming years.

Fashion School Perfect for Trend-Spotting
The fashion industry is all about trends. Fashion trends are born everywhere: In the streets of cities, on the fringes of suburbs, on the red carpet, on the runway, and on the design desks of fashion school students everywhere. Fashion design school students learn as much as possible about upcoming trends, how to react to them, and how to develop their own styles.

Plus-Size Fashions Receiving More Notice
One trend that may be coming our way is higher fashion for plus sizes. From the Brazilian model controversy to the acceptance of all types of models at Fashion Week in New York, women's health is a rising issue in fashion.

In a notable photo, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson appeared on the cover of Vogue. A talented singer and actress whose body differs from those of most models, Hudson is big, beautiful and vivacious. We may begin to see more plus size women on magazine covers and in window displays in the coming years.

An Opportunity to Design
This represents an opportunity for fashion design school students. Fashion design contests have begun to pop up for young designers and students designing plus-size fashions. Plus-size models are appearing more on television, debuting new jewelry and fashions on talk shows and news programs. Upcoming designers may find that this area of fashion provides an exciting career path in the years to come.
