Among other eating disorders anorexia is a complicated disease that has effects on different races, ages, genders, social classes, economical environments, etc.
Many Medical and Psychologists experts say that usually it is caused by a distorted vision of the own body, or the belief that in order to be loved, or worthy, or accepted one must be never reachable perfect, never reachable beautiful and extremely skinny.
Anorexia is not a matter to take lightly; on the contrary it is something in need of serious treatment.
A conflict has arisen between health fashion.
By one hand it seems that our society has come to accept that thinness is synonymous with today's true beauty, and by the other hand there is a mental prejudice that associates skinny bodies with anorexia. It seems to be a very confusing situation.
Nowadays many naturally thin celebrities are targets of the media and are often labeled as anorexics.
There are many people making jokes about how all beautiful models (perhaps healthy women) must starve themselves in order to be successful in their careers.
The dangerous aspect of this confusion is that perhaps as a result of these conducts many of us have trivialized a very serious and often deadly disease.
As a matter of fact living with anorexia is an agonizing experience.
That's why every one of us, every where have to be careful, we must help in putting an end to the trivialization of anorexia.
Just as a sad example Ana Carolina Reston died at the age of 21, In November 2006, weighing in at less than 40 kilograms for her tall 170 centimeters frame.
The debate rages on: some doctors and mental health insist that one of the causes of anorexia is the fashion industry, thin models, and a desire to be on the catwalk.
Other people, some of them serious professionals (such as fashion designers) say the main cause of anorexia isn't the fashion industry - it's a psychological problem that isn't related to the fashion world.
Two extremes very separated.
Surely we may conclude that there must be in such a complex issue a combination of different factors.
As a matter of fact, today it is still not known with certainty what causes eating disorders. Anorexia is a very complex illness and it can be due to a combination of biological, psychological and/or environmental causes.
