Girls become women, men show their dark side, and the film industry begs for more glamour and costumes. These are the trends that will surface in 2007, extravagantly challenging designers and design students alike. Read on for a look at what 2007 flings into the fashion world of Los Angeles.

To Live and Design in LA
From the exclusive clubs on the Sunset strip to the colorful panorama of the Garment District downtown, Los Angeles is a fashion mecca. Designers who choose the warm western sun over the eastern chill of cities like New York and Chicago find a thriving fashion community full of fashion schools, shows, and designers who make sure that Los Angeles' fashion presence is known worldwide.

Like these other cities, Los Angeles is a great place to attend fashion school. Design students are privy to western fashions that take weeks and even months to reach other parts of the world. It's up to these design students to study their craft, and experiment with new garments and designs in 2007.

The New Year is upon us, full of new fashion trends that will affect and inspire design students in Los Angeles. Here's a first look.

New Color Trends for 2007 in the City of Angels
Color will play a large part of 2007 fashion trends. The fashion industry search engine Infomat predicts a movment away from the fun "girlishness" seen in many 2006 designs and toward a more mature, "confident sensuality." For Los Angeles design students, this applies to both casualwear and eveningwear.

"Elegance" is in the fashion forecast. Classy designs will be a focus among the projects and portfolios of design students in the coming year. (Building a portfolio, by the way, is one of the best career tools that design students learn to use in fashion school).

For men, rich, dark colors are fashion industry predictions. This presents an interesting challenge for Los Angeles design students, who study and design in the bright, unwavering Los Angeles sun. If design students are known for anything, however, it's not shying away from cultural and design challenges.

Design Trends for the Style and Culture of Los Angeles
Los Angeles is in some ways the epitome of western culture. Some fashion reviewers write that the eastern influence on fashion will decrease in 2007, leaving design students at fashion schools in Los Angeles to use traditional and contemporary materials alike to experiment with western designs.

Not only is Los Angeles a fashion mecca, it is the center of the film industry, which means glamour, glamour, and more glamour. Design students in Los Angeles must remember the eveningwear that celebrities gravitate to, and not just their suits and gowns. Fashion merchandising majors also focus on handbags, earrings, shoes, and the many other accessories that make the LA fashion scene what it is. Costume design majors also work with new industry trends, like the production of more period films and films set in international locations.

It's an exciting time for fashion in the city of Los Angeles. Fashion designers and design students will be creating 2007's trends, taking the city and its most glamorous industry into the year ahead.
