Fashion degrees come with various career paths, but they don't limit you. Taking your degree and applying it to a career in fashion can simply be about learning style and creating a channel through which to bring it to clients. It's a little subset of the fashion industry called fashion styling.
A fashion degree can be a great pathway to many careers in fashion, from designing, to marketing, to simply showing people how to look fabulous. Dzagbe Manning, a fashion stylist in Alaska, told FortWayne.com how her career in fashion took shape. After earning a fashion degree, and then earning another one, she eventually landed in Alaska and now runs her own fashion styling consulting business.
Fashion Stylist Consulting
Called "Stylized Fashion and Image Consulting," Ms. Manning works on a multitude of projects within the fashion industry. Her business works on fashion shows, acting as a fashion styling consultant and assisting with photo shoots and runway presentations. Clients can also hire her business for personal shopping and fashion styling.
What Ms. Manning loves best about where her career in fashion has taken her, and what has become one of the most popular services her business offers, is "individual wardrobe consultations."
Playing with Clothes
For someone who "just want[ed] to play with clothes all day," wardrobe consulting is an ideal job. Clients who value their image as part of their personal and professional identities use Ms. Manning as a fashion compass, and she helps them choose clothing that compliments and creates confidence for themselves.
The Versatility of a Fashion Degree
Who knew that a fashion degree could lead to such a rewarding career? A fashion degree isn't only about design or the fashion business, it can also be about simply loving fashion and helping others find it for themselves.
