Want to get your designs from the drawing board to the runway in record time? Familiarity with fashion design software can make the difference between sluggish production and virtuoso output.

New Design Software Makes the Design Process More Efficient
Fashion designers must create original, saleable designs—sometimes quickly. Using fashion design software is one way for fashion designers to quickly bring their design concepts from the sketchbook to the sales floor.

C-Design and Corel have collaborated to produce a new option for fashion design software. Called C-Design Fashion, the software manages images in various formats, uses CAD concepts to create and alter clothing designs, and includes virtual tools that enable designers to add and alter fabrics and accessories.

The new software also has an image library of over 18,000 garments, and a system that allows designers specify sizes, sewing instructions, and measurement boards for suppliers. Several large design houses are already using C-Design, including Zara, Pimkie and Okaidi.

What Software Can Do for You
While sketching, sewing, portfolio development, and fashion show experience are all critical components of a fashion design school education, designers must also learn how 3D software can affect their industry. Fashion designers, like many other artists, work under tight deadlines, and often have to get designs to manufacturers and marketers in a timely fashion. Becoming an expert at some form of fashion design software can helps to relieve this pressure by speeding up fashion design.
If you're interested in fashion design school, you can learn design software while studying in many design specialties, including fashion design, fashion marketing, and fashion merchandising.
