What You Can Expect at Fashion Design School

You can expect to spend between two and four years at fashion design school, depending on whether you gain an associate's or bachelor's degree. Choosing a fashion design school, rather than fashion department in a fine art college can also shorten the length of your study. Either way, expect to cover principles of design, garment construction, textiles, computerized design, and drawing.
Preparation for Your Fashion Career
It goes without saying that creativity is vital for a successful fashion design career. Another essential, practical element in developing a fashion career is your internship with a fashion-related company. This will be particularly invaluable in giving you some business training, plus, it will give you a real idea of all the work involved.
Building up your own, original portfolio will also be vital in getting onto the first step of the ladder of your fashion career. You may have started working on this long before fashion design school.
It's a lot of hard work but think about it. During each year of your fashion career, you can expect to see around 20 new fashion lines. Just look at how much the spring/summer 2006 collection differs from last year's! Don't you just love fashion design?
