Some people stumble into a career in fashion design. At least this was the case for Daniel and Carla Hogg, a Vancouver couple who found their clothing design inspiration from a porcelain fawn figurine while they were thrift store shopping. With Daniel's previous fashion design and marketing experience, and the couple's dream of creating eclectic clothing, the two became the co-founders of Gentle Fawn Clothing.

The Hogg's business interests have them spending time in both Vancouver and Los Angeles--the two locations that have informed Gentle Fawn's clothing design concept. Blending elements that incorporate nature and feminine fabrics with an urban, LA edge, the label aims to provide 20-something women fashion designs that are both chic and sophisticated but also coffee shop appropriate.
Fashion Design and Savvy Marketing
Once Gentle Fawn made its debut in LA in November 2002, the rest of the label's success relied upon clever marketing and distribution--with stores opening throughout the United States and abroad. With appearances in publications such as Nylon and Lemonade magazine, Gentle Fawn is emerging as a label of its own kind in the fashion design industry.
Fashion Design School Offers Business Skill
Daniel and Carla made two key career moves: First they created a unique, wearable collection and followed this with a successful marketing strategy. In fashion design school, you will have your chance at exploring essential facets of the industry:
- Clothing design and pattern-making
- Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) applications
- Fashion merchandising and marketing
- Retail management, production, sales
Whether your muse is found in a porcelain forest friend or the invocation of John Galliano, fashion design school can help you develop a successful career in fashion design.
