"Skin Tight: The Sensibility of the Flesh" is an exhibition opening at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Chicago devoted to edgy and innovative fashion design. The exhibition opens this Saturday and runs until September 5th. According to a write-up in the Chicago Sun-Times, the exhibition is intended to show how fashion and art influence and react to each other, and is a part of a growing trend by curators to highlight fashion as art in a museum context.
"'Clothes can be as interesting as a Mies van der Rohe building down the street,' guest curator Sylvia Chivaratanond says. 'It is another visual language, visual trope of expression. They can be as beautiful and valid and not banal.'"
Most of the work displayed is by European designers, including Hussein Chalayan, Martin Margiela, Walter Van Beirendonck, and Viktor & Rolf. Check out the MCA Chicago website for more information.
