Fashion and art have long enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship - consider the cachet Andy Warhol brought to the fashion design world, or the artistic images that have found their way onto Hermes scarves, fine linens, and a multitude of other luxury fashion and lifestyle goods.

What's more, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art recently held an exhibit of modern art alongside sleek glass cases of Louis Vuitton bags for sale, signaling a trend toward more overt marketing of high fashion with high art.

What does this mean for those in fashion school? Well, it may not come as a surprise to many fashion design students. But perhaps you haven't considered until recently how art education could fit into your career in fashion.

The Role of Art in Fashion
Since well-designed fashion is a luxury good, and many of those who consume fine art may very well also have a taste for finer clothing, many fashion world movers and shakers are seeing greater opportunities in marketing fashion through art.

Could this mean art is more important than fashion students have previously thought? Maybe so. Fortunately, fashion design students are a creative bunch, so entering the art world is comes as naturally as executing a perfectly proportioned trench coat.

Mastering Art in Fashion School
Many fashion schools offer programs or classes in art, allowing you to combine your love of fashion with your eye for drawing, painting, or passion for art history. Take a couple of art classes or get a minor in fine arts. It will stimulate your imagination for color, your sense of proportion and, potentially, prepare you for what seems to be a hot trend in fashion design - mixing up careers in fashion with those in art.
