Fashion school is about working with unique garments and defining new trends. Giving designs a woman's touch, designing with the past as well as the future in mind, and dressing Miami's many beachgoers and sports enthusiasts are what 2007 will be all about for Miami design students.

The New Heyday of Fashion Design
Attention design students: fashion ain't what it used to be.

It's better! Sure, fashion design enjoyed a heyday in the 1980s, when designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Ralph Lauren were cutting their teeth, producing industry-changing fashion designs and attending glamorous parties every night. But things are different now.

Design today means being educated, not just having a flair for fashion. And for design school students in Miami fashion schools, 2007 will be all about color, casual clothing materials, and feminine contemporary chic. There will be many exciting design trends next year in Miami and across the world.

Hot Miami Designs
For Miami fashion school students, designing for heat is the name of the game. Sportswear, swimwear, and casualwear are essential areas of focus for design students.

  • Colors: Light, bright, and beautiful will be the "look" in 2007. Colors like tarragon (a light green), light blues, purples, made their way onto 2006 runways. When Miami design students work with these stylish colors, there is no doubt that swimwear designs will be as hot as the Miami sun.
  • Style: Casual isn't so casual anymore. Design students will find themselves using more traditionally formal garments like silk and wool to design casualwear and sportswear.

One great thing about fashion school is that design students have at their disposal the latest and greatest to work with in terms of garments and materials. Design students are the ones creating the trends of the future, and it happens in fashion school.

More Predictions for 2007
Miami, one of the top US fashion centers, will stay in close touch with national and global fashion trends. The fashion publication Trendzine shares some predictions for the 2007 year in fashion design:

  • Eveningwear goes disco. Okay, maybe the collars won't be as huge, and pant bottoms not as "bell," but 1970s flair is creeping back into eveningwear.
  • Women rule! Well, in some part of 2007 fashion design, anyway. Design students will see designs (for men and women alike) take on a softer side this year.

The Power to Change Fashion in 2007
A fashion reviewer for the New York Times wrote in October of 2006 that "there will be creative talents who inject new energy into the fashion scene." These creative talents include the tens of thousands of design students who are working on their craft in fashion school. They are the "artistic souls whose vision reflects what is happening in the wider world."

In order to become a fashion designer, you need resources. To be a designer in Miami, you also have to be in touch with the latest local trends. Attending fashion school provides future designers both of these essentials, while also nurturing the tools they need for a career in fashion.

The future will see many changes in Miami fashion design - and many of these changes will come from design students at fashion school, learning their trade, and changing the face of fashion in 2007.
