To some people, fashion is more than just throwing on jeans and a t-shirt in the morning. Fashion design school students in big cities everywhere never leave home without wearing stylish and fashionable outfits. But what if your designs are simply too grandiose for street wear? Finding a costume design program at a fashion school could point you in a fabulous direction.

A costume design program will introduce you to textures and colors, in a wide range of fabrics and materials. You'll take your fashion design skills to the next level by creating costumes that fit their characters perfectly. Also, this is your chance to find a specialty, whether it is stage, film, print or television.
Costume Design: Larger than Life
For those fashion design school students whose work cannot be toned down, there are outlets. Musicals, music videos, and traveling shows all need creative people to envision, design, and execute ideas for over-the-top costumes. If you dream of piecing together furry suits for Cats, or abstract leotards and ornate headpieces for Cirque du Soleil, a costume design program is where you want to be. You'll learn skills and make contacts in the world of stage and showbiz to begin your career in costume design.
Many costume designers have won Academy awards for their costume designs. Fashion design school graduates of costume design programs have won awards for movies including The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind, as well as Broadway shows like Wicked. The Tin Man, Scarlett O'Hara and Glinda the Good Witch have all made costume design history. Don't you think you should be next?
