d mega retail store H&M is well known for churning out cutting edge fashion and apparel designs that reference designer styles at much lower prices. Fashion design director Margareta van den Bosch understands the H&M customer inside and out, which means that consumer trends dictate the fashions on the hanger more than the runway.

With one eye on customer interests and the other on competitor’s fashion design and marketing strategies, Van den Bosch recently announced her collaboration with Madonna to produce “M by Madonna,” a line set to launch Spring 2007.

Celebrity Fashion and Apparel Designs Find Success
Following similar H&M fashion design collaborations with Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Viktor & Rolf, all of which were huge market successes internationally, Madonna’s fashion line answers the customer’s cry for the unique, glamorous, and timeless styles that celebrities showcase on the red carpet. Van den Bosch, recognizing the overwhelming response to celebrity-inspired designs, wisely chose to work with style icon Madonna, whose dramatic impact on the music and fashion scene is a cultural phenomenon.

Learn About the Fashion Market in Design School
Van den Bosch’s success in the fashion industry is largely attributed to her ability to read market trends, answer customer needs, and follow the successful marketing strategies of her competitors. The H&M collaboration with Madonna and other big names in fashion came from Van den Bosch’s understanding of how fashion design and marketing go hand in hand.

Learning these skills is critical to a successful career in fashion, and design school is the best place to receive this valuable instruction. Discover how you can make an impact on the apparel market by researching fashion design schools today.
