As a fashion design student in Texas, you'll have access to the Texas Fashion Collection, a special exhibit hosted by a special fashion design school in Denton, Texas. The collection boasts more than 13,000 pieces of clothing and accessories from the 19th and 20th centuries. You can't help but be inspired by this jewel of fashion design that can only be found in Texas.

Dallas hosts a chapter of the Fashion Group International, a non-profit fashion design organization that hosts fashion shows, awards shows and benefits. The group follows trends and industry developments, as well as promoting fledgling careers in fashion design. They sponsor lectures, workshops and seminars on developing trends and issues in fashion design that may affect you as a student. For example, how do you succeed as an independent designer in a world full of major labels and mega-stores?

Big Names, Big State

Also unique to Texas is the 4-H Fabric and Fashion Design Competition, in which competitors must submit their sketches and designs for judging. Tom Ford, the powerhouse behind the current designs at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, hails from Austin. Todd Oldham, designer for Target's new home line and other home furnishings projects, was also born in Texas. With big names like these ahead of you, what kind of inspiration can you gain from finding a fashion design school in Texas?
