Fashion Photography JobsTo make models glamorous, at least on the pages of Vogue, fashion marketers hire fashion photographers. Their job is to communicate a quality, a state of being, or an attitude.Ralph Lauren, for example, sends a discreet message in his ads featuring young, fresh-faced, aristocratic-looking youth appearing thoroughly unimpressed by their privileged surroundings. Guess ads, featuring scantily-clad models wearing expressions suggestive of sexual interest, send another very direct message. Whether squatting near a runway or on a photo shoot in some exotic locale, fashion photographers are often found in the center of exciting work. Fashion CriticsFashion critics probably have the least sexy job of all those who encounter the runway. They sit in the front rows of fashion shows where they can closely observe every cut of fabric or piece of adornment. They write for newspapers and magazines, giving their impression of the overall quality of a collection.Fashion SchoolYou don't need to attend fashion school to pursue all fashion-related careers--fashion photographers, for instance, often graduate from fine art programs.
