When I was young; the summer vacation seemed like an eternity. I could never understand why the back to school range was in the stores before I had even hung up my satchel for the summer. These days, of course, with children of my own, I am already planning for the fall. Fashion, life and careers are all about planning. Fashion and clothing design generally looks two seasons ahead.

Paris Fashion Week: Summer Show - Fall Fashion Design

In revealing the must-have looks for the fall, we witnessed the usual mixture of the sublime and the ridiculous in fashion design - with the notable absence of Versace. Having exorcised her personal demons, Donatella Versace has "gone back to school" herself. Forsaking the glitz and glamour, she is putting all her energies into revamping her ailing brand with new stores and new fall lines.

Now that the main designers have revealed their fall fashion, designers can start looking forward to Spring and beyond. That's life, and that's fashion design.
